On March 22, Tang Jun, deputy director of the State Administration for Market Supervision, met with Keith Williams, President and CEO of the US Security Testing Laboratory (UL).
Tang Jun introduced the reform of China's inspection and testing industry. As the "physical examination certificate" for quality supervision and the "letter of credit" of the market economy, certification and accreditation as well as inspection and testing play an important role in improving the quality of supply and promoting high-quality development. At the same time, as a third-party service industry, it plays an increasingly important role in market regulation. China's certification and accreditation team is huge, and there are many employees. In the next step, the State Administration for Market Supervision will improve the system and optimize service supply according to the requirements of the “distribution service” reform. At the same time, it will strengthen supervision and foster industrial development. What’s more, it will deepen international cooperation and expand international mutual recognition results. Tang Jun said that companies like the US Safety Testing Laboratory (UL) are welcomed to enter the Chinese market and participate in the development of China's inspection and testing industry. He hoped that the two sides will have more opportunities for cooperation in the future.
Keith Williams introduced the development of the US certification and recognition industry. He said that today is the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the UL. The company has entered the Chinese market for nearly 40 years. One-third of the company's turnover comes from the Greater China. The US safety testing laboratory and China's certification and accreditation regulatory authorities have long-term cooperation. He hopes to further develop the Chinese market in the future and play a greater role in improving the quality of life of Chinese consumers.
The two sides also exchanged views on issues related to the US certification and accreditation industry.
