On February 14, 2019, the inaugural meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 83rd International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Conference was held in Beijing. Zhang Mao, Director of the State Administration for Market Supervision, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Tian Shihong, Deputy Director of the State Administration for Market Supervision and Director of the National Standards Committee, hosted the meeting. Shu Yinbiao, IEC Chairman-designate, Chairman of China Huaneng Group Corp,Xu Kunlin, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, and Xin Baoan, Executive President of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

　　Zhang Mao pointed out that IEC is one of the three most influential international standards organizations in the world, which enjoys the reputation of “United Nations in the field of electrical engineering”. It is of great significance for China to successfully bid for the 83rd IEC Conference. What Zhang Mao emphasized is as following. It is required that the responsibility of the preparatory work be clarified,the division of labor be refined, and the preparatory work be implemented with fine management; it is necessary to place more emphasis on the top priorities like the conference finance, protocol, and materials; effectively, take the opportunity of the conference to actively promote standardization, enhance the standardized consciousness of enterprises, and promote the standardization career of China; work together to jointly run the 83rd session with the Shanghai Municipal Government, State Grid Corporation, and Huaneng Group,with the purpose of achieving the goal of "Contributing to China's wisdom, Telling the story of China, Embodying the Chinese effect, and Leaving China's impression."

　　The meeting read out the "Notice of the State Administration for Market Supervision on the Establishment of the Preparatory Committee for the 83rd International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Conference" and reviewed the overall plan for the preparations for the conference. Xu Kunlin, Shu Yinbiao, Xin Baoan and others responsible for the conference respectively put forward suggestions and requirements for the IEC conference.
