On July 17, Bi Jingquan, Party Secretary and Deputy Administrator of the State Administration for Market Regulation, met with Tedros, Director-General of the World Health Organization and his team.

On the afternoon of July 17, 2018, Bi Jingquan, Party Secretary and Deputy Administrator of the State Administration for Market Regulation, met with Dr. Tedros, Director-General of the World Health Organization and his team. The two sides expressed their willingness to further strengthen cooperation in the field of drug supervision and make greater contributions to the global public health cause.

Bi Jingquan said that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to the drug supervision work and are comprehensively promoting the reform of the drug review and approval system. While encouraging the research and development of drugs and accelerating the introduction of innovative drugs, they are actively carrying out the evaluation of the consistency of the quality and efficacy of generic drugs so as to effectively ensure the quality and safety of drugs. In 2017, China’s drug regulatory authorities joined the International Technical Coordination Committee for registration of pharmaceuticals for human use, marking that China’s drug registration standards will be fully in line with international standards. I believe with the deepening of the reform, more and more Chinese medicines can enter the international market, and China’s ability to contribute to the global public health will also become even stronger. Bi Jingquan also reviewed the long-term good cooperation relationship with the World Health Organization and introduced the institutional reform of the State Administration for Market Regulation.

Tedros congratulated the establishment of the State Administration for Market Regulation. He hoped to further deepen cooperation with the general administration and Chinese drug supervision departments under the framework of the belt and road initiative, the China-Africa cooperation forum and South-South cooperation in the future, to promote more vaccines, medicines and medical devices produced in China to be supplied globally through the world health organization's pre-certification and to work hard to solve the public health problem of drug accessibility.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as promoting the localized production of African medicines, personnel exchanges, and drug export certificates. Comrades in charge of relevant departments of the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Food and Drug Administration attended the meeting.
